We are seeking an exceptionally motivated and talented data scientist with a broad skill base in machine learning, algorithm development, and analytics to join our highly collaborative, multi-disciplinary, and rapidly growing Data Sciences department, reporting to the Chief Data Officer. You will analyze complex, high dimensionality biological datasets, interpret the results, and communicate your findings through visualizations and summaries. To succeed, you will need intellectual curiosity, a focus on data-driven solutions, and a collaborative work ethic.

Responsibilities

  • Build a highly impactful data science capability and act as a champion and subject matter expert for data science internally
  • Understand the challenges of genomics-based drug discovery and identify data-driven solutions
  • Integrate and analyze complex datasets, combining genomics, transcriptomics, proteomics, metabolomics, and biological assay data
  • Interpret, summarize, and communicate findings to help drive decisions and set priorities
  • Identify and leverage relevant public data resources
  • Design, implement, validate, and execute novel analytical and modeling approaches to advance on the state-of-the-art
  • Follow the latest advances in the field, proactively evaluate new technologies and methods, and bring them in house where appropriate

Requirements

  • Ph.D. in Data Science, Computer Science, Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, or another relevant field
  • 8+ years of experience in industry, academia, or a non-profit setting
  • Demonstrated success in a complex, multi-disciplinary research setting
  • Deep technical expertise in:
    • Machine learning methods including deep neural networks
    • Mathematics, statistics, and algorithm development
    • Data visualization and effective data communication methods
    • Python, including libraries in the core scientific computing stack (Jupyter, NumPy, SciPy, pandas, pytorch, matplotlib, etc.)
    • The Unix command line environment
  • Comfort operating in a cloud computing environment (e.g. AWS, Google Cloud Platform)
  • Experience with dev ops (Docker, Git, Terraform, etc.) is a strong positive
  • Basic understanding of molecular and cell biology is a plus
  • Ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team and communicate results clearly to peers and leadership
  • A sense of adventure and excitement to be part of the development of a new drug discovery paradigm
